Grants and Funding

The current federal education budget includes significant new funding for reading and language arts. The following funding sources can be used to support your students' literacy needs:

  • Title I
  • Title II-A Improving Teacher Quality
  • Title III Language Acquisition State Grants
  • Title VI-B Rural Education Initiative
  • Migrant Education
  • Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA)

Schools and districts can also apply for the following competitive federal funding programs to support their reading and language arts programs:

  • 21st Century Community Learning Centers (apply to your state department of education)
  • Improving Literacy through School Libraries
  • Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy
  • Race to the Top / Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge Grants

In addition, state, local, and private foundation funds are available to support your goals.
