The adoption of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and coming implementation of next-generation assessments are standardizing the three types of writing students need to practice and master—narrative, informative/explanatory, and argument or opinion. But how exactly do the CCSS and next-generation assessments define narrative writing in particular?

During this hour-long webinar, former literacy coach and instructional specialist, Scott Miller, will delve into how the new standards are impacting narrative writing instruction and provide you with actionable strategies you can take back to the classroom to prepare your students to excel with the new standards.

  • Learn the relationship of the CCSS to the traits of writing.
  • Contextualize narrative writing within the CCSS-defined writing process.
  • Examine a prototype narrative task from a next-generation writing assessment.
  • Analyze and discuss a student writing model of narrative.
  • Learn, practice, and apply one specific instructional strategy for narrative writing.
