Handwriting is Critical to Student Literacy

Lately, handwriting has been the topic of much discussion in Tennessee. Last week, a measure that would require Tennessee schools to teach cursive handwriting passed the Tennessee House (now, it’s on its way through the Senate before it can be signed into law). Fran Gregory, a retired teacher and reading coordinator for Metro Nashville Public Schools, explains why students deserve the opportunity to learn handwriting.
