Lesa Scott to Oversee Highlights for Children Education Companies
COLUMBUS, Ohio (February 24, 2015)—With the goal of taking a comprehensive view of the opportunities available in the evolving education marketplace, Highlights for Children, Inc., announced the appointment of Lesa Scott as President of the Education Group. In this newly formed position, Scott will oversee the Highlights for Children educational subsidiaries Zaner-Bloser, SDE, and Stenhouse
Kent Johnson, CEO of Highlights for Children, Inc., the leading family media brand and publisher of the best-read children's magazines in North America, said Scott's appointment allows the company to think more intentionally and strategically about collaborative approaches across all businesses and how to build or buy additional businesses to complement current capabilities.
"We searched for the perfect mix of experience and strategic skill for this position, and Lesa demonstrated that type of leadership in her accomplishments at Heinemann," Johnson said. "Her track record of producing quality content in a competitive market as well as launching digital content and innovative resources made her the obvious fit for this new role at Highlights."
Scott served 14 years as President of Heinemann, a division of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, until December of 2014. In addition, Scott held roles at Scholastic, Wow Publishing, Scott Foresman, and McDougal Littell—all in the PreK–12 education market.
Scott said her personal passion for education and her affinity for Highlights' mission and culture is what attracted her to the new position.
"This role offers both the focus and structure to ask how we might better serve both teachers and students three, five, and 10 years from now," she said. "I'm deeply honored and excited to take these unique education companies to the next level."
Devoted to "Fun with a Purpose," family media brand Highlights for Children, Inc. has helped children become their best selves for generations. In addition to the flagship magazine, Highlights' other offerings include a preschool magazine (High Five), an infant magazine (Hello), a children's book company (Boyds Mills Press), puzzle book clubs, and a variety of digital products.
