Why Students Using Laptops Learn Less in Class Even When They Really are Taking Notes

According to the results of a new lab-based study, when taking notes from the same lecture, handwriters learned more than typists. Pam A. Mueller of Princeton University and Daniel M. Oppenheimer of the University of California-Los Angeles, are the authors of the study—The Pen Is Mightier Than the Keyboard: Advantages of Longhand Over Laptop Note Taking—published in the journal Psychological Science.
