Nonfiction Notebooks: Strategies for Informational Writing

Author and Bio

With more than 20 years in education, Aimee Buckner thrives on the idea that teaching is about helping students develop intellectually, physically, and emotionally. She uses the writer's notebook to help carve out a place in the curriculum that allows students to truly be themselves and find their own voice. Aimee consults both nationally and internationally and speaks at state and national conventions. As well as being a contributor to Choice Literacy, Aimee is the author of two other books with Stenhouse Publishers: Notebook Know-How: Strategies for the Writer's Notebook and Notebook Connections: Strategies for the Reader's Notebook.

Summary of the Book

Using the same practical format as Notebook Know-How, Aimee Buckner walks teachers through the process of using writer’s notebooks to guide their nonfiction or informational writing nonfiction (informational) pieces. Since the 2010 release of the Common Core State Standards and its emphasis on informative/explanatory writing, the impact of helping students through the front end of the writing process has never been more important. From exploring topics to gathering information to assessment, the book takes teachers step-by-step through the process of how best to use notebooks for informational writing.
