Kelly Gallagher is an English teacher in the Anaheim Union School District, California. At UCLA and UCI, he served as a teacher-leader in the California Reading and Literature Project and co-directs the South Basin Writing Project at California State University, Long Beach. He is the author of two Stenhouse books, Reading Reasons: Motivational Mini-Lessons for Middle and High School (2003) and Deeper Reading: Comprehending Challenging Texts, 4-12 (2004).
Write Like This emphasizes the writing that Kelly wants his students to be doing twenty years from now. Built around the central premise that students will grow as writers if they need to read, study, and emulate good writers, his book provides the mentor texts and discourses (express and reflect, inform and explain, evaluate and judge, inquire and explore, analyze and interpret, and take a stand/propose a solution) as the right models to accomplish this.
