It’s hard to believe we are moving toward the end of the school year. As summer break draws near, it’s the perfect time to start planning fun activities that celebrate months of hard work, learning, and reading growth. Whether you are counting down the days with your students or simply looking for ways to add some extra joy to your classroom, there are many creative ways to bring Superkids into your end-of-year celebrations. In this issue, we share inspiring ideas from fellow Superkids teachers to help you wrap up the year with a little extra Superkids flair.

A character dress-up day is a popular way to celebrate a year of learning with Superkids. Students—and teachers—love stepping into the shoes of their favorite Superkid, whether it’s Ettabetta with her curiosity, Golly with his playful spirit, or another beloved character they’ve come to know so well. The day is not only fun but also a meaningful way to spark conversations, laughter, and lasting classroom memories.

Why not end the year with a super special Superkids show? Performing a play is a wonderful way for students to showcase their talents while revisiting stories they’ve loved throughout the year. Any Superkids story written in play format provides the perfect opportunity to bring reading to life on stage.

Many teachers organize a Superkids performance for families or other classrooms as part of their end-of-year celebrations. If hosting an audience isn’t possible, you can capture the magic by recording your class’s performance and share it digitally with families. Students will be proud to see themselves shine on screen!

Some Superkids teachers take it a step further by guiding their class through shared writing to create an original play—just like the Superkids do! It’s a creative way to celebrate learning, collaboration, and imagination while making memories students will never forget.

Here are ten creative ideas from Superkids teachers to celebrate the last days of school. Choose a few for a special one-day Superkids celebration or spotlight one idea each day during the final two weeks.

Fun with S.T.E.A.M. and Superkids

Incorporate a S.T.E.A.M. activity connected to a Superkids story or character. Let students explore science, technology, engineering, art, or math in ways that tie directly to the stories they know and love.

Make a Superkids Bus

Ask a local store to save a large appliance box and challenge students to create a Superkids bus for the classroom! Encourage teamwork, creativity, and imaginative play as they transform a simple box into a classroom treasure.

Fix Up a Real Bus

Some schools “borrow” a real school bus for Superkids day. Students get to paint the bus using washable paint with a touch of dish liquid and, at the end of the day, wash and “fix it up” just like the Superkids do. It’s hands-on fun with a memorable payoff—the driver gets a squeaky-clean bus!

Bright Routines

Why not provide a change of scenery to make Daily Routines or Daily Warm-Up practice fun and fresh? Grab some sidewalk chalk, find a safe spot of pavement, and flex those encoding and spelling skills in the sunshine!

Cooking with Cass

Decorate paper chef hats and whip up a super-special snack inspired by Cass, our Superkid who loves to cook. It’s a tasty way to celebrate learning while stirring in a little fun!

Gardening with Golly Day

Plant seeds or small plants either on school grounds or in cups to take home. Add to the fun by providing students with this Golly Ears Headband to wear while they plant!

Sal’s Sports Day

Bring a Superkids twist to field day or recess! Students can enjoy sports activities inspired by their favorite characters.

Ettabetta’s Bring-a-Game-from-Home Day

Invite students to bring a favorite game from home. They can practice speaking and listening skills by teaching their classmates how to play while fostering teamwork and social interaction.

Alf’s or Adam’s Adventure

Go on a nature walk with homemade binoculars made from paper towel tubes. Or organize a scavenger hunt using written clues that are decodable. Some teachers ask families to help by setting up tents for students! Kids can partner-read favorite Superkids stories in the tents and turn the reading block into a mini adventure!

Icky’s or Izzy’s Interesting Experiment

Bring science to life with a hands-on experiment! The Super Smart Digital Read-Alouds, Super-Duper magazine articles, and SUPER magazine articles offer easy-to-explore science topics that can be transformed into engaging classroom experiments.

Many teachers like to end the year with an award ceremony or even a special graduation to mark their students’ accomplishments. Incorporating The Superkids Reading Program is a wonderful way to honor progress while celebrating all the fun your class has had learning to read!

Students can sing their favorite Superkids songs or read a published piece of writing about the characters and then proudly receive a certificate recognizing their hard work. These small touches make the day memorable and give families a chance to see just how far their children have come.
