Spotlight On: Mrs. Beeler
Amanda Beeler of East Elementary School in Charlotte County, Florida, won a gift card on Zaner-Bloser's Facebook page in February and used it to buy books for her first-grade classroom. She tucked new books among existing ones to surprise students.
"One little girl ran up to me after she had been to the bookshelf. 'Mrs. Beeler. . . Someone got us some new books!' I pretended to be as amazed as she was . . . After showing me, she went to find one of her friends, and they sat down together to read their exciting new find."
How do you inspire a love of books and reading in your classroom? Share a story with us.

Listen, Name, Teach: Three Steps to Effective Writing Conferences
Peek inside a grade 5 ELA block to hear a student-teacher conference that takes place during independent writing time.
Notice the way Ms. Meehan waits for the student to explain what she’s trying to accomplish, quickly points to something the student is doing well toward that goal, and then teaches some phrases that writers commonly use to explain and elaborate on their thinking.
