Top Reasons Students Struggle in Elementary Math and What to Do About It

Year after year, many students struggle with elementary math concepts. Research shows that there are specific, targeted ways to help.

In this on-demand webinar, Jen Hunt and Laura Nelson present the most common reasons students are not ready to access grade-level material and offer research-based solutions to address those challenges within the school day.

By the end of the webinar, you will be able to

  • describe reasons students aren't accessing their grade-level materials.
  • identify effective strategies for building conceptual understanding of foundational math skills.
  • consider the roles positivity, identity, and self-confidence play in math achievement.
  • create requirements for a K–5 intervention plan that works for your school or district.

You will also see a brief introduction to Kickstart Math Intervention, a hands-on small-group intervention program that presenters Jen Hunt and Laura Nelson co-developed for targeted K–5 number sense, place value and operations, and fractions skills.
